how we started

Turning pain into passion

Honoring Memories of Our Mothers (M.O.M.s) began as an idea of a one-day event — Honoring M.O.M.s Day — to provide an opportunity for women experiencing grief and/or feeling a void of the loss and absence of their mother. 

Founder, Taronda Gibbons, wanted women in various cities to come together to celebrate and honor the life of their mom. She was inspired to start Honoring M.O.M.s Day after seeing women express their pain on social media every year on Mother’s Day. As a part of her own healing process and the desire to provide support to others trying to move forward after death, this special day was born.
 
The first Honoring M.O.M.s Day was scheduled to take place in Atlanta, GA and Orlando, FL in 2020 but the pandemic changed those plans and the event had to be converted to virtual. Honoring M.O.M.s Day 2021 was hosted in-person in Atlanta, GA. Taronda hopes that in the future, more partners will join to host in cities across the world.
MISSION & PURPOSE

Honoring M.O.M.s’ mission is to provide support to women who are experiencing grief or feeling a void due to the loss of their mother.
 
The purpose of Honoring M.O.M.s is a celebration of life to serve as a joyous occasion as well as a place where those who are grieving their mother’s earthly presence can receive resources to assist in their journey of healing.

Taronda Gibbons works in real estate, governmental affairs and public relations, and is a published author of two children's books. She believes in a life of service and building community. As the founder of Honoring MOMs, she hopes to help women around the world that share the same experience of losing their mother to receive support, resources and love along their journey to healing and coping with their loss.

President

Honoring MOMs President role is vacant and looking to be filled. Seeking someone who would like to volunteer to lead the organization alongside of the Chairman.

Description: The president is responsible for ensuring the mission of the organization is executed, its programs are carried out in support of that mission, and its finances are managed to carry out that mission.

Secretary

Honoring MOMs Secretary role is vacant and looking to be filled. Seeking someone who would like to volunteer to take notes and keep track of meeting minutes. .

Description: The board secretary keeps minutes of the meetings and submits them to the board for approval. The secretary also manages the organizations non-financial documents.

Treasurer

Honoring MOMs Treasurer role is vacant and looking to be filled. Seeking someone who would like to volunteer to keep track of the organizations financial.

Description: The treasurer oversees the non-profit’s finances, including maintaining financial records, check signing, approving expenditures, and preparation/review of financial reports. The Treasurer presents the financial reports to the board.

Vacant

Description:
The board member assists with applying to grants and successfully securing fundraising donations and with planning events.
